Building relationships to build communities

At the Madison Community Foundation, we encourage, facilitate and manage philanthropy...

Beloved area broadcaster's legacy lives on
The face and voice of television reporter Mike McKinney was familiar to many viewers in southern Wisconsin for more than ten years. During that time, he anchored the news for WMTV Channel 15, but was as well known for his area charitable work. To honor his life and his efforts, Mike's mother, Barbara McKinney, and a group of community volunteers established the Michael Harrington McKinney Scholarship Fund at the Madison Community Foundation. The fund will support students with a desire to study broadcast journalism.

Preserving Madison's historic gems through an endowment
The Madison Trust for Historic Preservation helps preserve the architectural and historical heritage of the greater Madison area through advocacy and education. To ensure that their work continues in perpetuity, an endowment fund was created. As with all funds at the Madison Community Foundation, additional gifts can be made at anytime by any individual with current assets or through their estate plans.

Generous gift in will to impact Dane County forever
June E. Johnson was a life long resident of Madison, a teacher, member of the USO during World War II and a long time staff member of the Wisconsin Historical Society. She enjoyed fashion, the opera and poetry. In her will, June left a generous gift to the Madison Community Foundation, and in turn, a forever gift to the community she loved. The June E. Johnson Fund is part of the foundation's community impact grantmaking that supports current opportunities which will produce a lasting impact on area people and places.

Anonymous donors create permanent endowment for neighborhood center
The Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center has offered youth, family and community services to thousands of residents on Madison's far west side for more than twenty years. With the construction of its new spacious center in 2008, more educational and recreational activities will be supported by an endowment fund created by several anonymous donors. The Madison Community Foundation acts as a philanthropic conduit between generous individuals who want the limelight on their gift, not themselves, and a cause that is meaningful to them.
