Madison Community Foundation fills $30,000 shortfall for Independent Living

Staff at Madison Community Foundation learned that Dane County had to cut $30,000 from Independent Living’s eviction prevention program for seniors, and stepped in quickly to create a plan to fill the gap.

“We heard about the budget cut on Thursday evening and by Friday afternoon were able to identify $20,000 from a restricted fund that is a part of the Madison Community Foundation Community Impact Grant Funding,” said Tom Linfield, Vice President, Grantmaking & Community Initiatives. “An anonymous donor provided an additional $10,000 to help restore the entire amount.”

Madison Community Foundation designated over $550,000 in competitive grant funds in 2009 to target the basic needs of food, shelter, and energy assistance. Those funds helped leverage an additional $1.8 million from individual donors, foundations, and state and federal funds.

The mission of the Madison Community Foundation is to encourage, facilitate, and manage long-term philanthropy.
