Michael Sheahan Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Michael Patrick Sheahan Memorial Fund was created at the Madison Community Foundation (MCF) by Pat and Helen Sheahan to honor the life of their son when he passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2008.  The scholarship fund will support James Madison Memorial High School graduating seniors who wish to pursue rigorous post-secondary education in the field of their choice.

Michael was born on July 11, 1988 in Madison, WI. He graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 2007 as a National Merit Scholarship finalist, National Advanced Placement Scholar, and recipient of the Highest Academic Honors medallion. Michael played the piano and violin. He was in the high school orchestra for four years and competed in Solo Ensemble as a pianist.  Michael built many award winning rockets and models as a 12 year member of 4-H.  A consummate soccer player and Ultimate Frisbee aficionado, Michael played on Memorial High School’s 2006 Division 1 State Champion Varsity Soccer Team and 2007 State Champion Ultimate Frisbee Team.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Michael pursued dual degrees in bioengineering at the School of Engineering and business at the Wharton School of Business. Michael spent the summer of 2008  researching  soft  lithography  techniques  for  cell culture at  the UW Center on Nano-structured Materials. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, and traveling. At Penn, Michael was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and played on the University of Pennsylvania’s Ultimate Frisbee Team. Michael volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, taught summer church school, and tutored low income students at the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project.

Michael was an amazing young man: intelligent, kind, an easy friend. His zest for life and passion for learning will live on in perpetuity through this memorial scholarship fund.
