A portion of Madison Community Foundation's assets include a number of unrestricted and field of interest endowment funds. Each year, a portion of the value of each of these funds is distributed to charities in Dane County through the MCF Community Impact Grantmaking process.  In 2009, the Foundation's Board of Governors awarded over $1,300,000 to support a variety of projects that build on Dane County community Assets. 

 

Madison Community Foundation also administers competitive grantmaking efforts for the following component funds: American Girl Fund for Children, A Fund for Women, and Altrusa International. These component funds have separate guidelines and grant application deadlines.

Charitable organizations with a designated agency endowment fund held at the Madison Community Foundation receive a steady stream of income to support their ongoing good works. An endowment is an important component to a charity's financial strategy. MCF manages more than 275 endowments for charities, and provides ongoing technical assistance to those groups on topics such as fund raising for their endowment and planned giving strategies.
