Does the Madison Community Foundation read draft proposals?
Madison Community Foundation does not read full drafts, due to the volume of proposals received. Only abstracts will be reviewed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their projects with Tom Linfield prior to submittal.
How important is it to indicate other funding sources?
Critical. Madison Community Foundation is rarely the sole funder of any project. Inclusion of other funding sources indicates your organization's strategic planning for the sustainability of the initiative beyond the grant cycle.
How many years of funding may we request?
One-year projects are generally recommended. On occasion, two-year requests are funded.
How often can an organization submit grants to Madison Community Foundation?
Once per cycle. If you have an ongoing grant, you must have finished your project and submitted your evaluation before reapplying for new funds.
What percentage of proposals are funded?
Generally, 25%.
I'm applying for a capital grant. What suggestions do you have?
Speak with Tom Linfield before you apply. Madison Community Foundation is rarely the first or last money into capital projects, preferring to provide funding once the campaign is established so that the grant funds can help you leverage additional gifts.
How can I learn more about the type of evaluation reporting involved?
Speak with Tom Linfield for more detailed information. MCF's evaluation
report is a requirement of all grant recipients.
